In many divorces, financial issues arise regarding alimony and child support. Child Support is more of a mathematical calculation based on the relative earning history and ability of each party, and is covered under the “Child Support” section of this website. Alimony, may be an issue depending on the length of the marriage, the work history and potentional of each spouse as well as the need of one party for the alimony and the ability of another party to pay it. Either the husband or the wife can seek alimony in Florida. Alimony may be awarded on an interim basis, rehabilitative basis, lump sum basis or permanent basis. The parties are free to craft any agreement they desire regarding alimony and a good mediator or family law practitioner should be consulted in this regard. |
